Community Write

Need some help transforming an idea into a story? A thought to a thing? In my 15 years of working with writers, I have noticed that for many of us, one of the biggest challenges we face is showing up to the page. Community and deadlines (lifelines) really help. Why not let yourself be held accountable, and in good company, while you write your book (short stories, essays...)?

Find Your Voice, An exploration in Perspective

Who tells a story–the narrative voice, how they see things–governs everything about story, just like how the voices in your head shape how you see the world in any given moment. This class will use the exploration of perspective to learn/ hone key elements of writing craft.

Write Your Book

Write Your Book

9 Monday Classes,  4-5:30pm EST on Zoom

March 27 - May 22, 2023

Community Write: Tuesdays and Fridays 10-11am (An optional 2 hours a week to work on your book quietly in community.)

Writing a book is an epic journey. One that requires courage, vulnerability, commitment, perseverance, and surrender. It’s a collaboration between the mind, heart, spirit and Creativity. In this class we will explore spiritual practices that invite story to move through the heart, while feeding the mind new vantage points and practices for honing craft, understanding and developing your story in new ways.

This course will offer guidance in the craft of writing a book-length work, as well as the art and practices of writing with more than the mind, writing as a spiritual practice. Each class will offer breathwork and meditation, time for collective learning, practice and sharing. This course is for writers of memoir, personal essay, and novels, but could also be relevant to other genres (check in with me).

Cost is $625

I am a hole in a flute

that the Christ’s breath moves through

Listen to this music.

-Hafiz

Where does the exploration of consciousness become conscious co-creation with Spirit? The stuff of magic and miracles. When and how does writing become channeling–pulling a story through your heart, rather than wrestling it from the mind?

This course will focus on understanding and exploring the possibility that, “The body,” as the great Sufi poet suggested, “is a hole in a flute that the Christ’s breath moves through.”  Together we will learn how to listen to the music–the story-song within you, longing to express. We will explore spiritual practices (not religion) that support opening to receive, and writing exercises that offer playful opportunities to engage with what comes through at the page.  Open to writers and creatives of all genres.

Everything in the universe longs to be seen and heard. Writing is a means to see and acknowledge parts of self and parts of life that are yearning to transform. From pain to healer, obstacle to teacher, memory to story, from a thought to a thing. This is the alchemy of writing.

This course will hold space for and offer guidance in both the craft of writing memoir, as well as the art and practices of Writing as a Spiritual Practice. Each class will open with breathwork and meditation, and offer time for collective learning, practicing and sharing.

Writing is alchemy; it’s the transformation of thoughts, memories, or imaginings into art: stories, poems, books, songs. When we write, we turn thoughts to things. With transformation, comes healing. This course will offer spiritual practices and lessons in craft, to mine your whole bodyscape for your story within. Each class will open with breathwork and meditation, and offer time for collective learning, practicing, and sharing.

Tanya Robie teaches writing as a spiritual practice--not just writing craft but how to write with the entire being. With over a decade of professional experience at the page and on the yoga mat, Tanya offers a unique approach that invites your creative vision to root and soar.
